We offer a full range of classes from beginner, to the more advanced shooters. In addition, we offer safety training with or without firearms such as the Range Safety Officer and Refuse To Be A Victim Seminar. So, whatever your need, we have you covered. See the descriptions below, then contact us for details.
NRA FIRST Steps Pistol
$50
NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.
NRA Basic Pistol Shooting
$75
This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. This course can potentially take longer than the normal 8 hours due to firing range fun!
NRA Range Safety Officer
$75
This course is nine hours long and is conducted in a classroom and at a shooting facility. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, an Instructor Application/Course Evaluation form.
NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home
$75
This course is 8 hours long. Unlike the other basic courses, the Personal Protection In The Home course covers defensive shooting. Self-defense is a topic somewhat distinct from the regular diet of shooting fundamentals; it covers mindset, legal issues, decision-making under pressure, and planning for the worst. The Basic Personal Protection in the Home course is designed around the use of the defensive pistol. Students will receive the NRA Guide To The Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook and intensive lessons on basics of defensive shooting, issues of self-defense, and other strategies for protecting the home and family.
Duration
Although the course can be completed as quickly as eight hours, the amount of information presented, and the probability of intensive question and answer sessions on the included topics, makes it likely that the course will take longer.
NRA Refuse To Be A Victim Seminar
$55
The seminar includes classroom instruction on a variety of crime prevention strategies, from criminal psychology to automobile crimes to cyber crime. Seminars can vary in length, and may be modified to suit the needs of a particular audience. This is not a firearms instruction course, and does not include instruction in physical combat self-defense. Seminars teach about common weaknesses that criminals may take advantage of, and teaches a variety of corrective measures that are practical, inexpensive, and easy to follow. Strategies include home security, carjack avoidance techniques, cyber safety, and use of personal safety devices. A complete seminar may last as long as eight hours and include the entire lesson plan, but a modified seminar may be as short as 90 minutes and address a specific topic. Students will receive the Refuse To Be A Victim student handbook, NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® brochure, NRA Become A Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor Brochure, Refuse To Be A Victim® Firearms Supplement, and a course completion certificate.
NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun

NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun course is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific shotgun model. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific model shotgun at a moving target. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular shotgun model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the shotgun; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.
NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting

This course is at least ten-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. This course is fast pace and fun!
NC Concealed Carry Handgun
$70
This is the class required by North Carolina to obtain the Concealed Carry Handgun Permit. This class is comprised of eight hours of mandatory classroom training with additional time on the range.
Classroom time involves two hours of discussion on the legal aspects of using deadly force in self-defense and the laws concerning where a concealed handgun may not be carried. The remainder of the the classroom time covers firearms safety and nomenclature as well as marksmanship fundamentals.
Before completing this class the participant shall pass a twenty question test about the legalities of carrying a concealed handgun and the use of deadly force. In addition, the student must demonstrate how to safely load, unload and handle a handgun as well as shoot a handgun at a target. Handling procedures are graded by the instructor during practical application, and shooting proficiency is determined by the score the student receives after shooting forty rounds at a life-sized silhouette. Students are required to shoot from distances of 1, 3, 5 & 7 yards.
NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside The Home

This course is 16 hours long. The NRA Personal Protection OUTSIDE The Home (PPOTH) is the next level up from NRA Personal Protection INSIDE the Home. This course is designed to build upon the training provided in the NRA Personal Protection INSIDE the Home course, which needs to be demonstrated by presenting a PPITH student completion certificate, or by passing the PPITH student test with a minimum score of 70% prior to the start of the course. The focus of this course is the effective use of a concealed handgun for self defense on the street. Included are chapters on concealment techniques and devices, presenting the handgun from concealment, utilizing cover and concealment outdoors. This innovative course include presentation and movement, point shooting, instinctive shooting, low-light shooting, engaging multiple targets and one- hand shooting. The skills and other presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack outside the home. This intermediate/advanced handgun course is approved as a firearm qualification course for a Concealed Carry License.

Situational Awareness For Employees

The S.A.F.E. (Situational Awareness For Employees) Training Program gives you a scientifically backed, data driven, heuristic framework in identifying pre-event indicators of a pending situation. It gives you the knowledge and skills to identify a threat BEFORE it occurs, and the confidence to act on what you observe.

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting

This course is at least 14 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. This course is generally divided into two days due to the large amount of information that must be covered.
NC Hunter Education
FREE
The Hunter Education Program of Mining Ridge Armory provides hunter education courses throughout the year. We are happy to provide this training to the community free of charge. More than a firearm safety course, instruction includes ethics and responsibility, conservation and wildlife management, wildlife identification, survival and first aid, specialty hunting and tree stand safety.
All first-time license buyers must first successfully complete a hunter education course. There are no minimum age requirements, however, classes are taught at a sixth grade level and tests must be completed without assistance.
Courses are a minimum of 10 hours, taught by wildlife officers, hunter education specialists and certified volunteer instructors, and certification is accepted in every state and province in North America.
